More than 300 SME’s from across metropolitan Melbourne braved the winter chill and headed to Hoppers Crossing in the city’s west to attend the second of three Downer Industry Supplier briefings.

The turnout exceeded the expectations of event organisers, ICN Victoria.

ICN Victoria’s CEO, Don Matthews – who introduced the event – said the big turnout demonstrated an overwhelming interest from companies keen to access a share of Downer’s annual $800m Victorian procurement spend.

He congratulated Downer on the Doing Business with Downer  supplier briefing Victorian initiative, saying it demonstrated Downer’s long-term commitment supplier engagement to build Victorian industry capability.

Downer CEO Infrastructure Services, Sergio Cinerari, said he was proud of Downer’s 4000 suppliers.

“We value these relationships and need partners that understand how we work, and that share our values and vision for a vibrant, sustainable industry.”

He  called on suppliers interested in partnering with Downer to register as a prospective suppler directly with Downer at:

Brendan Petersen, Downer CEO Engineering, Construction and Maintenance, said Downer’s customer base exposed suppliers to new technologies and global supply chain opportunities: “We are engaging an extensive supplier base to deliver capabilities.”

Michael Miller, CEO Downer Rail, said Downer’s business excellence program exposed Victorian SMEs to new technologies and global supply chain opportunities.

At the end of the session, SME’s took the opportunity to talk directly to Downer executives about their businesses.
